Lilywood Turnings - Frequently Asked Questions


  1. Do you really turn each piece by hand?  
    Yes.
  2. How then do you make each piece identical?
    It is an acquired skill. Michel has been turning wood for 27 years.
  3. Can you really turn any style I want?
    Yes.
  4. What do you need to do this?
    A picture or, for heritage restorations, the post you need duplicated.
  5. Why do you need the post?
    To get the exact size. Or, you can provide me with the measurements and a picture or drawing.
  6. Do you just turn the stair parts or do you install stairs?
    We can install the stairs within 150kms of Wallace, Nova Scotia, though we prefer to do the wood turning and let your contractor do the installation.
  7. I noticed you don’t offer balusters or newell posts in pine, why not?
    We have not yet found a supplier.
  8. Where do you get your wood?
    We get our wood from Folly Mountain Hardwood Ltd. just outside Truro, Nova Scotia.
  9. Is the wood kiln dried?
    Yes, between 6% and 8%.
  10. Do you make the handrails?
    Yes.
  11. Can you do wood turnings out of wood I supply?
    Yes
  12. How long does it take to get custom turnings?
    Two to three weeks from order.
